It is my great pleasure to be elected as the first ever chairperson at the 45 th AGM of FCCISL. Let me first ,thank all of you for the great support extended to me during my association with FCCISL first as a director, then as Vice President, and finally last two years as Senior Vice President.

I see my election to the presidency at FCCISL happens at a time when our business society is facing acute issues affecting the sustainability. We have to admit the fact that last couple of years the business environment was not very conducive for the growth of businesses. The situation was further aggravated due to Easter Sunday terror attack happened in April 2019.

We observe a new parliament is going to be elected by the people of Sri Lanka very soon so I believe the fresh hopes are emerging at the horizon.

In this context FCCISL, being the apex body and the business voice of the chamber movement in Sri Lanka has a specialized role to play in motivating the businesses.

However, FCCISL face few challenges such as growth in activity portfolio, maintaining the share of voice, making the presence at world forums while increasing the income substantially. As the newly elected president of FCCISL, I wish to propose a new theme Entrepreneur Development through Trade Promotion for my two-year period (2020-2021).

Let me explain as to why I selected Entrepreneur Development through Trade Promotion as the new theme. I have seen during my career as an entrepreneur and a company director a so many global trade opportunities available to Sri Lankan businesses but not utilized due to factors such as unawareness, lack of a strategy, financial constraints and lack of skills etc. I believe this is the area where Sri Lanka can get the instant benefit so why not we make use of this opportunity fully.

Entrepreneur Development through Trade Promotion will consist of following key sectors and I wish to implement following steps during my first year.

1) Introducing Sri Lankan Entrepreneurs to Global Markets
2) Women entrepreneur development
3) Training for Member Chambers and their members.
4) Lobbying with the relevant Authorities on resolving common issues, related to businesses in Sri Lanka
5) Continuation of flagship event – Sri Lankan entrepreneur of the year awards

I also wish to implement the following steps during the second year.

1) Introducing new technology in production and marketing to Sri Lanka Entrepreneurs
2) Capacity building for FCCISL staff members.

At last but not least I wish to place my sincere appreciations on records to past president Mr Ajith wathuhewa and then board of directors for making a provision in the FCCISL constitution to accommodate a mandatory female representation on FCCISL board and I was privileged to be the first ever mandatory female representation on board.

I also wish to thank the outgoing president Ruwan Edirisighe and the board of directors for all the guidance and encouragement given to me during last two years. I also wish to congratulate the new board of directors on their election to the board.

Finally, I would like to solicit your utmost support to implement our program which will no doubt benefit all member chambers immensely. Thank you once again for placing your trust in me. God Bless You!
