Dialog Axiata, Janashakthi Insurance and Bank of Ceylon tie up with prestigious “ SLEOTY 2012” by FCCISL

The National Press Launch of the Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of The Year Awards 2012 was held at Galle Face Hotel, Colombo recently. This Award recognized as Sri Lanka’s highest national honor to the business community, grandeur and prestigious awards unparalleled to any other national awards scheme.

Mr.Lal Keerthi Gunawardana, The platinum winner of the Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2011 addressing the gathering said “Sri Lanka is still far away from the visionised society that we dream of due to the lack of entrepreneurial leadership originated”. He also praised the regional network of the FCISL and mentioned the connection he had built with Matara District Chamber helped to link with the Federation and paved the way to achieve this prestigious award.

The Chief Corporate Officer at Dialog Axiata PLC( The Platinum Partner) , Mr.Kawan Ratnayaka, said” We feel it is our obligation to support FCCISL – Entrepreneur Award as the Chamber act as the focal point of the Business Community and the FCCISL really does its job. We still remember how painful to be a Small and Medium about 16 to 17 years ago. Being large is equally challenging and painful”.  Mr.Ratnayaka appreciated the new segment being introduced this year, Emerging Small Women Entrepreneur in North and East and Differently Abled Entrepreneur. “We are also engaged in such activities and events and we are pleased to see our partners are also do the same. And we assure our assistance towards the event in years to come”, he commented.

Ms.Dayani Fernando, Deputy General Manager, Corporate & Offshore Banking, Bank of Ceylon (Silver Partner)delivering her speech at the Press Launch stated, “ We wish good luck to the Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of Year Awards, appreciate very much the efforts being taken by the FCCISL. We are glad to tie with this prestigious award for the second consecutive year and we thank FCCISL for the efforts taken to recognize the entrepreneurship in Sri Lanka”.

A new segment of the Awards is being introduced this year, Emerging Small Women Entrepreneur in North and East and Differently Abled Entrepreneur, which are themed respectively, “Encouraging Women in North and East to Realise Their Entrepreneurial Potential” and “Beyond Barriers to Achieve Entrepreneurship”.

The Emerging Small Women Entrepreneur in North and East indents to recognize small women entrepreneurs to create a movement that promotes women’s entrepreneurship and makes people aware of the incredible contributions made by women for the development in economy of the Northern and Eastern Provinces. This special award category is sponsored by “Socio-Economic Development for the Conflict Affected Communities of North and East Sri Lanka”, project funded by EU under EU – ACAP 2009/2013 Project, where FCCISL-CHEER project is one of the implementing partners. Observing Ms. Roxanne abdulali, Project Manager, OXFAM GB, “Oxfam is working in Sri Lanka since 1986 and wants women to become the leaders and decision makers of the society. We believe by sponsoring for this special award category this objective is achieved. We eagerly look forward to see a successful award programme”.

The Differently Abaled Entrepreneur is a premeditated category of Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year sponsored by the International Partner, an NGO; People Like Us (Persone Come Noi) with a view to recognize highly motivated entrepreneurs who achieve their set goals by working beyond physical barriers. Making a note at the launch, Mr.Davide Cairo Lamberti, Project Manager, People Like Us said, “People Like Us is working in 16 countries for the past 11 years and working in Sri Lanka since Tsunami. The synergy between Government, local NGOs and other stakeholders allowed us to extend our activities in Sri Lanka. We believe in global commitment to appreciate who are in a disadvantage position. We want them receive equal opportunities”

Mr.Anura Siriwardena, Secretary, Ministry of Industries and Commerce addressing the gathering said, “We know the value of developing entrepreneurship and the significant effect to the economy. It is very much appreciated to see that FCCISL especially recognizing small women entrepreneurs in North and East and Differently Abled entrepreneurs, who need our attention and support. The ministry will continue to support FCCISL on this programme, the SME Fair which Ministry of Industry is actively involved and any development course in this nature”.

Mr.Patrick Amarasinghe, Founder of the Award Programme/ Past Director FCCISL, Mr.Kosala Wickramanayake, Immediate Past President FCCISL, Mr. Samantha Kumarasinghe, Past Platinum Winner of the Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of The Year Awards,  Chairman / Managing Director, Nature’s Beauty Creations Ltd also presented at the launch.
