‘Hands Lanka’ First Ever International Handicrafts Exhibition
S B Nawinna, Hon. Minister of Rural Industries and Self Employment Promotion declared open the first ever international handicraft exhibition – “Hands Lanka” at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC), Colombo on the 9th October, 2008. On the first day the exhibition is open from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm and will continue from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm from 10th – 12th October.
The organizing of Hands Lanka is a joint initiative by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL), Handwerkskammer Koblenz of Germany and the National Chamber of Handicrafts in Sri Lanka (NCHSL) together with the Ministry of Rural Industries and Self Employment Promotion.
The purpose of this first ever international handicrafts exhibition is to offer a helping hand to the small and medium scale handicraft manufacturers. The exhibition venue is also an open forum for the local craftsmen to meet expert counterparts spread all over Sri Lanka with national and international high end admiring clientele.
An attempt is made to bring all the handicraftsmen spread all over the country together, so that they could obtain assistance to continue their industry without any hindrance.
“Hands Lanka” exhibition opens up new markets for the SME scale entrepreneurs and provides an opportunity for local and foreign handicraft products manufacturers, accessory suppliers, related machinery manufacturers, research and development institutions and SME business development service providers to exhibit products created by them.
The venue also provides opportunity to sell products/machinery/accept firm orders for supply; select and appoint local agents/distributors; negotiate and enter into joint ventures; share new technology for improvement of quality; free entrance to workshops on advance sustainable production methodologies, effective and sophisticated production strategies and quality maintenance.
