Indo Ceylon Economic Dialogue 2015: Kandy

Speech of The Assistant Highcommisionerof IndiaSpeech of The Assistant Highcommisionerof IndiaSpeech of The Assistant Highcommisionerof IndiaThe Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) successfully held its first ICE Dialogue in Kandy in collaboration with Assistant Indian High Commission and Chamber of Provincial Entrepreneurs, Kandy on 04th March 2015, at the auditorium of Chamber of Provincial Entrepreneurs, Kandy from 3.00pm to 6.00 pm. This session held under its theme “Expanding your business in to India and overcoming Challenges” With the participation of some 100 business people composed largely of leading businessmen from Central province and basically focused on to identify the  new face of India- Sri Lanka Economic Relations and to promote the India- Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement.

This Programme inaugurated by the Assistant High Commissioner of India H.E. Radha Venkataraman and Kandy Mayor Mahendra Rathwatte. Experts and Business Leaders, (who have already success in trade between India- Sri Lanka) shared with the participants, the latest findings on the business opportunities and issues with regards to the regards to the India- Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement and other issues such as Non- Tariff Barriers and so on. Inspiration for new opportunities on export and import from India were realized through this session and FCCISL launched its “SAARC NTM (Non-Tariff Measures) Desk  to monitor, report, evaluate the prevailing NTMS in Sri Lanka via the monitoring matrix or tools and to take the necessary steps to reduce / eliminate the Non-Tariff Barriers, Para Tariff Barriers which pose significant obstacles for Free Trade with other member states in the SAARC region on selected priority products and on all goods in general and it was launched by H.E. Assistant Indian High Commissioner Ms. Radha Venkataraman.
