Treasury Secy. initiates payment of Insurance claims to Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu..
As a good begining and a token three claiments who have insured against damages to the business buildings and premises were compenciated by the Chairman National Insurance Trust Fund Mr. Senaka D Abeygoonesekara at the Review Meeting held at the Treasury on 26th August 2010, subsequent to the initial meeting of Revitalisation of Business Enterprises in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts.
This was held under the Chairmanship of Dr. P.B.Jayasundara, Secretary to the Tresury and the Ministry of Finance with the facilitation of Federation of Chambers of Commerceand Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) .
Janasakthi Insurance Company was the only institution that was allowed to operate and undertake insurance coverage from the Business Community and General Public in Kilinochchi nad Mullaitivu districts during the period of conflict. Insurance Companies have denied the payment of clamis at the begining since there was no clear instructions, when the claimants submitted their claims for compensation after the final conflict in May 2009. The denied claimants being the chamber members, Mr. Kosala wickramanayake the President of the FCCISL brought this to the attention of Dr. P.B.Jayasundara Secretary to the Tresury and the Ministry of Finance and facilitated the payment of insurence claims.
As per Abeygoonesekara damages to the buildings and premises will be paid first and the claims for the trading stocks and business assets and equipments will be paid later.
Further, as the greate achievement of the meeting, a Soft Loan facility at a lower rate of interest through the Peoples Bank and Bank of Ceylon has been granted for Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu traders to make use of the fund as seed capital for a better future.
