International Acclaim for FCCISL’s Business for Peace Initiative (BPI)
The Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) has yet again proven its might by winning the prestigious Asia Brand Congress 2008 “Award for Social Marketing” for its ground-breaking Business for Peace Initiative (BPI).
The Asia Brand Congress 2008 “Award for Social Marketing” recognizes organizations that have attained the leadership position through its competitive edge by not compromising on Social Values, Business Ethics and have the sheer determination and belief to be the best.
The core objectives of the BPI are to educate, create awareness and build confidence among the business leaders, entrepreneurs and employees in the necessity, importance and possibility of business sector participation and providing leadership in peace building effort at all levels, i.e. local, national and international levels; provide a platform for the business community to interact and engage in a dialogue, consultation and to exchange views and ideas on issues pertaining to conflict, security, peace building and economic development with various stakeholders such as politicians, bureaucracy, conflicting parties, security authorities, NGOs and INGOs, civil society, international community etc.; create awareness and build up public opinions on issues pertaining to peace building and economic development; boost competitiveness of micro and small enterprises in the north and the east through a process of enterprise rehabilitation; popularize ethnic diversity in the business place; and to facilitate private sector engagement to promote enabling business practices. The BPI aims to be a catalyst and a facilitator towards achieving sustainable peace through entrepreneurial contributions and creating socio economic benefits to all communities in a partnership approach with all stakeholders.
The BPI Project is successor to the pioneering Back to Business (B2B) Project which won highest acclaim at the 5th World Chambers Federation Congress in 2007 when it won the award titled Best Unconventional project for SMEs for its outstanding achievements in post tsunami livelihood and enterprise revival. The Asia Brand Congress 2008 Awards Ceremony will be held 25th – 26th September 2008, in Mumbai, India.
