The 24th CACCI Conference

The 24th CACCI Conference/Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2010 was held under the theme “Facing Global and Local Challenges; The New Dynamics for Economic Development” at Cinnamon Grand Colombo from 5th – 7th July 2010.

This Conference was co-hosted by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and was supported by the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau.

The Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce & Industry (CACCI) established in 1966 primarily provides a forum for examining, crystallizing and consolidating the views of Asian and Western Pacific enterprises on issues of common interest; for promoting intra-regional trade and investments; and for enhancing regional economic growth. With membership from 27 countries, it cuts across national boundaries to link businessmen and promote economic development throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

During this Conference eminent speakers addressed on specific sectoral issues, their implications on the region’s economic development in light of the recent global financial and economic crisis, and the opportunities they present to the region’s business sector.

The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry signed two Cooperation Agreements during the conference with the Chinese International Economic Association and Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB).Having taken into consideration the desire to contribute, in mutual cooperation to the development of economic and trade relationship, we believe that this will pave the way to greater ties between the respective countries.

The 4th CACCI Local Chamber Awards 2010 which was one of the projects of the Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the 3rd Asia Pacific Young Entrepreneur Awards, a project of the Young Entrepreneurs Group –Asia Pacific (YEGAP) of the Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry were also held during this Conference.

The FCCISL is proud to mention that we nominated Anuradhapura District Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the Chamber Awards competition. Mr. Nayana P. Dehigama, Managing Director, Epic Lanka Technologies (Pvt) Ltd and Mr. Ruwan Edirisinghe, Managing Director, RN Construction (Pvt) Ltd were nominated for the Young Entrepreneur awards competition.

Competing with 27 countries and having being selected amongst the 5 finalist the two young Entrepreneurs nominated by FCCISL faced the final screening interview held on July 5th 2010.

During the Gala Dinner hosted by Japan YEG ,on July 6, 2010 Mr. Nayana P. Dehigama was adjudicated as the Winner of the 3rd Asia Pacific Young Entrepreneur Award Winner. This is the first time that a Sri Lankan has won such a prestigious award competing with some of the leading young businessmen in the Asia Pacific Region.
